I graduated from the ASU College of Business (known as W.P. Carey School of Business today) with distinction in May, 1974. That Spring I was the founder of the Chicano Business Students Association known today as the ASU Hispanic Business Students Association. On a bright, sunny afternoon I walked across the College of Business Bldg. to the ASU Community Resources Office and asked for an application to charter the first business student organization for Hispanic business students at that time on main campus. I remember being told I needed a faculty sponsor so I walked back to the business college and asked the only Latina business faculty person at that time (Dr. Garcia) and to be the faculty sponsor). She agreed. Thus, began a program that has endured 50 years into one of the largest such programs in the nation. I went on to earn a Doctorate in Education Leadership. My favorite Sun Devil memory was the energy and joy engaging with students from all over the country during many changes in our country.
